  • star rating  From the start communication was very good, we were given advanced notice of additional charge due to road slip which wasn’t an issue, (see later about this) and pick up... read more was prompt as arranged.

The vehicle was comfortable and we knew the drive would be long, but once out of Baku, the scenery started its gradual change from an oil ravaged countryside to the beauty of the every changing vista and landscapes.

There were a couple of stops on the route for the Candy Mountains, Red Village, and Petek (coffee stop).

After this point we changed vehicles into traditional little Lada Niva 4x4s for the 50km to Kinaliq; driven by local gentlemen in what can only be described as a scene reminiscent of the Italian Job as they wound their way up the steep inclines of the Caucasus Mountians, often straining every ounce of torque from their soviet engines. This was an addition as mentioned above, but for us, a highlight of the trip.

On arrival, the remoteness, hostile environment was touched with beauty and solace, with breathtaking views that echoed a simplistic life of the village dwellers. Lunch was homely affair and warming as one expects from the hospitality of this wonderful country.

The host Murad was accommodating and dealt well with a group of many different nationalities with his politeness and warm nature.

Overall, we would recommend this trip, it’s a long day, but really puts into perspective and contrast the life we lead in our bustling cities with all our modern technology, instant gratification and accessibility in comparison to a very simplistic life, often separated from the outside world.
